Dress to Impress 5 Steps to Look You Best For a Black Tie Event

There are times when you have to make an appearance at a high-end event. It could be something organized by your company or exclusive party, with your name of the guest list. As the event draws closer the excitement builds up, but there is a nervous energy because you are not really sure of what you are expected to wear.

The term 'black tie' first came to use in the United Kingdom. It referred to the formal ensemble for men, complete with a black tie. This formal attire was worn for events after six in the evening and was considered to be the smartest way to dress. But as time as passed, you are not really sure of what exactly is accepted under this label.

Well we're here to help :

  • Jacket
The first thing to start with is the jacket. This should be in a dark shade, black being the safest option. You could also wear navy blue if you are looking to mix things up. You can either go for a double breasted or a single breasted jacket, depending on your preference.

  • Trouser
For a formal event it is important to match the trouser with the jacket. Traditionally, men would go for a high-waisted option but nowadays the slim-fit trouser has become popular. The high waist is great if you are planning to wear a waist-coat.

  • Shirt

The white shirt is the obvious way to go but there are a couple of options to choose from in terms of the type of collar. The first option is the classic turn down collar then there is the wing-collar which is traditionally worn with a bow-tie.

  • Shoes

It is important to pick the perfect pair of shoes to complete a look and make it perfect. In this case, the best way to go is with the classic leather oxfords. Black is a safe option and there is a collection of smart black footwear available in the market.

  • Accessories

Finish of your look with the perfect set of accessories. This includes a bow-tie, a cravat or a regular tie. You could also put a pocket square in the breast pocket of the jacket for a classy twist. Finish it off with a pair of tasteful cuff-links and you are ready to go.

So next time you have an event to attend, take it one step at a time and you catch everyone’s attention with your smart attire.
